Ambassador Cara Shardlow introduces herself tells us about her plans for 2016!
“My name is Cara Shardlow and i compete in affiliated Dressage and also do a bit of eventing”
“I live nr Whitby in North Yorkshire where I run a livery and competition yard as well as freelance teaching. My top horse is Detonator II a 10 yr old gelding. I have owned him since a newly broken 3 yr old and we have come up the grades together and now compete at Intermediate 1 and PSG level.”
“2015 was an amazing year for us we won our first regional title at the winter regionals at Advanced Medium level also coming 2nd at the summer regionals. We also contested our first high profile and premier leagues winning at Inter 1 level and gaining so me good placings giving us the score we need to be able to apply to compete at an International hopefully this year. We also came 3rd at PSG level at the Home International and won the area festivals at PSG and Inter 1 levels qualifying us for the finals in April at Hartpury.”
“So our aims for this year are firstly the winter regionals at the beginning of February. In April we have the Pet Plan finals, then it will be Premier leagues and hopefully we will get selected to compete Internationally at some point during the year.”
“Sandinista is my 6 yr old gelding. I bought him as a yearling and he has grown and grown and he is so big I’m to scared to measure him to find out how big he actually is! Because of his size I have taken things slowly but he had some great results last year with a 6th place in a big novice open summer regionals class and was reserve for the Home International team. He is also qualified for 3 classes at the winter regionals. He will mainly contest elementary classes this year possibly medium later on.”
“Measure for Measure is a home bred coloured gelding 6 yrs old. I bred him while I was still eventing a lot so is not really a dressage horse but has had some good results. He kept getting a few silly injuries last year so I never actually got him out BE but hopefully we will this year.”
“I also have a home red youngster to break in and a mare called Millie who is a project to bring on and sell, she will hopefully go out affiliated very soon.”
“So I’m very excited for 2016 with lots already qualified for and competing at the premier leagues with a little eventing thrown in as well, plus being able to represent Horslyx up and down the country.”
